| Solid state drives have awesome performance, use less power, and are more suitable for mobile devices. Only problem is that price. |
Ok, so I have seen that SSDs are going to be a big hit in 2009. Their performance is just excellent, the capacity is getting up there now (256GB), and I quite like the idea of no moving parts.
I remember back when LCD monitors were on the way in, everytime I went to buy one I would say, "Just a few more weeks" then the price would drop by a large sum.
When are we going to see reasonable prices that wont leave you feeling like you were robbed in a few weeks time?
I would wait at least 6 months.
I know you can already get PCs with SSDs from major vendors but every month we are seeing those price reductions and, even more importantly, we are still seeing major jumps in performance.
Personally, I'd love to have a few of those babies in a raid setup and get some serious performance through them. Guess its not going to be long before we see the drive interface change again away from SATA/SAS so we can really get the performance the devices are going to be able to offer.
