What is the best part of online communities?

So this online community is starting to take off and a quick face lift has been done to make everything look a bit nicer.
What I would like to know from your guys is what are the best parts of online communities. I know every community is different and there are huge differences in what basis communities take but every community has similar elements such as some form of avatar and some form of self expression.
Look at secondlife. It is an online community that is different to say, a chat room, but both involve communication between a group of people or private conversations.

People being open
Honestly, the fancy stuff doesn't really keep me long time. All those 3d chat software things are fun for a bit but just get booring!
I like it when people are really open and you get to talk about serious stuff.
The camaraderie
I like the camaraderie.
Granted, there isn't much here yet but I do like how you can start to see it develop here and there. Also, what keeps me coming back is if there is a good read to be had.
Discussions reveal character
I love those discussions that get you into mixing, like favorite movies. I reckon you can tell so much about somebody just by their comments on their likes and dislikes.
