Struck by lightning

Ryans avatarMore people get struck by lightning than you think and its amazing what it does to you.
Ryan

I just saw a small documentary on a direct lightning strike victim yesterday and I had no idea at how dangerous it can be.

This person suffered massive internal injuries including burns to many vital organs, nervous system damage, brain damage. They also broke some bones with the extreme force their muscles put on their body when struck... and this person was lucky.

Another person just shook for a second then crumpled to the ground dead.

The national weather service in the US states that one third of injuries occur at work, another third doing outdoor recreational activities. They also state that 10% of strikes are fatal and that you have a 1 in 500 chance of being effected by a lightning strike to some degree in you life, assuming an age of 80.

Hay, this is some dangerous stuff! So make sure you stay safe during lightning storms by going indoors preferably big buildings, stay in a car or truck if you can't get indoors, dont use the phone, and of course, don't stand under a tree.

i have seen lightning

Hey, ive seen a lightning strike for real. It was on a hill just over from my house. The lightning looked as usual but it had almost like a fireball where it hit and a cloud of sparks.
