Best AdSense optimization tip

I have the best tip to get your adsense earnings as high as you want and its nothing to do with colors, placement, image tricks, or questionable tactics.

For those that dont know, AdSense is an advertising program offered by google that allows you to place ad spots on your website and have them filled by google. Anybody that clicks on an ad generates some income for the ad spot owner.

There have been many "optimizations" that include blending your ad spots, changing the colors, placing images near the ads, and even making your website ugly. All these techniques do work to some extent but they will never bring you in the big money. And why is that?

Its simple, if you optimize your ads you increase the earnings per visitor. This means a linear increase in earnings, or from what I am told, a less than linear increase.

So here is my tip. What you need to do is to get a good marketing textbook and strap yourself in for some learning. Traditional marketing concepts such as brand awareness are just as important on the internet as in the other media. Make a marketing plan that covers every area in the textbook. You may need to adapt some concepts to suite the internet but they should all be valid.

For this tip to work you will need a super website with lots for people to do, look at, read, listen to, interact with, etc. Never forget that trash marketed as gold is still only trash.

This tip goes for any type of business. Make you business super then market it properly using every well known marketing technique there is.

read a book?

So your tip is essentially to read a marketing book? Thats not much of a tip, care to elaborate what we would learn from a marketing textbook?

yes read a book

hey, I can't do the learning for you.

A marketing textbook will open you to traditional marketing which still applies to the internet. I see so much SEO related material and ad optimization that I can only think that everyone is fumbling round in the dark.

recommend a book

fair enough.

I have done a marketing subject at university and I do have a marketing textbook. I can see where you are coming from. There does appear to be a lot of 'snake-oil' out there in discussions these days and reading up on real marketing would benefit anyone who doesn't have a degree in marketing.

Can you recommend any good marketing books?

I do know a good marketing text. Unfortunately its not with me and I can't remember its exact title or authors.

Ill post it up when I can find it.

Google optimizing

I have been studying google for a while and there are many experts (people who make money on the internet) who offer the following advice: Google looks for relevance. That is: if your site is about shoes, then the articles, headings and content will be about shoes. It really helps to have links to and from other sites on shoes. You can e-mail their webmaster and offer to swap links. You upload theirs and they do yours. Google loves lots of links.

Warning: If your site is about shoes and google finds no relevant content or lots of unrelated info you can be 'de-listed'. Fancy term for them taking you off the 'shoes' search list.

Here's a nifty trick to see if Google finds you and how many listings:
In the Google search box at the top of your browser type in
site:yoursite.com That's 'site-colon-yoursitename' If it's .net etc, use that.
Google returns a full list of categories your site is listed under.
Pretty cool.
