| The iPhone has been released but isn't it a bit behind the mark for phone technology |
There is no doubt that the multi-touch screen on the iPhone is a revolution in itself, full stop.
Has anyone noticed that the quality of the phone, the part that makes phone calls, laggs behind some much cheaper models?
The audio encoding used for phone calls is behind phones I purchased more than 3 years ago. Granted Apple has released a statement that they will bring the phone portion up to speed by late 2008/early 2009 but that would mean that the technology has been easily available in other phones for 5 years before apple takes it on board.
So what am I really saying? The iPhone in 2009 is what the real hype should be about, the one when all the new technologies they have are in a phone that equals other specifications of common phones 3 years older.
Have you noticed poor quality voice calls compared to other mobiles, or more so, do people on landlines notice the poor voice quality?
What is a modern mobile phone?
In my country mobile carriers are replacing voice calls with skype calls and making mobile data very cheap and attractive with even modest phones having full XHTML, javascript, and flash lite available.
Me being a person that only uses the calling feature of my mobile a few times a day, i'd have to say that the call quality is good enough. I don't own an iPhone myself since it has not been released in Australia but the call quality should be good enough, it is the new applications and technologies that make modern phones what they are.
