| Introducing the a la flow forum to the public. —Ryan |
Greetings all, my name is Ryan. I have created this forum, a la flow, in a effort to bring a high quality general discussion community to the internet.
You may ask why the internet needs another forum. If you want to talk about a specific topic, chances are that there is a forum out there that fits your topic already. With such a huge number of forums wouldn't my time and yours be better off spent using those forums instead of constructing new ones? I would say that it is difficult to find a community that has a general focus where the discussion is of a high quality, so much so that there is space for at least another forum on the internet.
Most forums use the same software. Common forum software include VBulletin, phpBB, Invision Power Board, and Simple Machines Forum with many others available. Most of these forums are quite similar in their function and appearance as new features from one forum are often implemented in the others. These existing software packages have long lists of features, are very robust, and are very stable. What these forum packages lack is uniqueness and to a certain extent, performance. a la flow uses custom forum software designed to be simple, allow for complex posts, and be of the highest performance, all in the attempt to create a forum that is a pleasure to interact with.
Not all of a la flows features are implemented yet but the core forum is functional. If you notice something is broken then politely inform us using the a la flow sub forum.
Enjoy your stay here and I hope to chat with you on the board!
Well done Ryan!
You have been saying for ages that you were going to start this forum ('bout time). Looks nice!
Quite a few pages and links are missing, such as a link to register and login on the home page. I could only register if I tried to reply to a thread. Also the "Using markup" page and "Rules" give not found errors.
Good Luck! I will certainly stay round.
With regards to the missing login link, at this stage I don't plan on putting one up at all. Logging in is implicit if you want to post and at this stage has no other purpose. So the only time you would ever want to login would be when you go to post. Same with registration.
There are quite a few more broken pages. When you log in you are directed to a missing user control panel. With the control panel missing you cannot give yourself an avatar or change your signature.
The userpages such as /~Ryan/ also do not work yet. Lots to do but its good to see most of the posting functionality working.
Hi Ryan,
Thank you for showing me your forum. I have not used many before but yours seems to be good.
See you on the board!
Hi Ryan,
Thankyou for the link to your community. Ugly colors but i am no designer.
Hi Ryan,
Great forum you got starting up here. I am looking forward to some of the more advanced features that you explained to me a few weeks ago.
How it coming on?
I just noticed that thread subscriptions popped up in the user control panel. Not working though.
I like this feature so make sure you tell me when it is completed
I would also like to know when thread subscriptions are finished... so I can turn them off.
Hi Captain Crunch and thank you for you interest in the development of a la flow.
Subscriptions are partially done. The notification mechanism is working very well. All that needs to be done it to make some way for you to subscribe to threads.
This will be done the next chance I get.
Greetings all,
subscriptions are now fully working. You can setup your preferences in the user control panel to auto subscribe to any threads you participate in if you wish. You may also manually subscribe to a thread by using the links at the bottom of the thread page.
Thread and post promotions are now also just about working. Once they are fully working you will see a change to the forum home page to reflect the inclusion of elected 'important threads'.
Clark Kent, what are you doing over in Canada?
